We were in Bavaira for about a week and planned to visit many of the Bavaria palaces/castles. This 14-day tickets for Family covers 2 adults and kids. The price was 66 Euro (in 2022) for family tickets. Check website for more information and list of covered places.

For Wurzburg, Wurzburg Residence, Maienberg Fortress and Maschikuli Tower and Casemate were included. When we visited the Maschikuli Tower was not open due to covid restrictions.

Parking

Parking at the Marienberg Fortress is 3 Euro for the whole day. It is easy walking across Alte MainBrucke to town. Parking in downtown is more expensive.

Distance from Fortress

0.7 miles to The Alte MainBrucke (the Old Main Bridge)

+0.2 miles to St. Kilian Cathedral

+0.3 miles to Wurzburg Residence

Total walking time from Fortress to Residence one way about 30 minutes (of course longer if you stop to enjoy the view)

Marienberg Fortress

Castle tour available recommend to book in advance. We booked a tour (it was only available in Germany) and ended up not joining the tour and walked around the fortress ourselves. There are areas such as the chapel that can only be visited with the tour.

The fortress is on a hill and there’s a good viewing platform with view of Würzburg town

Würzburg Old Bridge

We walked from the fortress to town via Alte MainBrucke (the Old Main Bridge)

There was a bar on the bridge and lots of people enjoying a glass of wine on the bridge.

Würzburg Residence

The Würzburg Residence is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is big with more than 40 rooms to visit and beautiful (Baroque style), no pictures are allowed inside. The Mirror Cabinet is not to be missed.

The outside court Garden is also worth visiting if time allows.
