Rhodes old town is small with totally twelve gates to explore. All are marble roads and shoes with heels must avoid. North side above Sokratous street is much more interesting than south side. Lindos is another popular attraction on the island as a half day trip. Check the archaeology site opening times, when we visited the first time in 2017, Our cruise arrived Monday and in winter schedule all archaeology sites were closed on Monday.

Lindos

Lindos Acropolis is about 50km from Rhodes port. To get there, there are public buses available (but will take longer to get there by bus). There are many shore excursion tours (both offered by cruise line or local tours) with guided or Lindos on your own options. We found it easy to rent a car for the day. There are multiple car rental agency across the street from the cruise terminal. And driving around Rhodes island is pretty easy. When arriving at Lindos there are several parking lots available, we got there early enough and was able to park at Lindos central parking lot which is across from the bus station.

Acropolis of Lindos

To reach the Acropolis of Lindos you have to walk through the modern villages of Lindos and climb up the stairs to the Acropolis. There are donkeys available for those that wish to ride the donkey (although not recommended). The walk up is about 15 – 30 minutes depending on your pace. There are shops and great views, and lots of cats along the way.
