Things to Do
Whiteface Mountain
Whiteface Mountain is a well known ski area and hosts many ski events including Winter Olympics. We was on our way home from Canada and decided to check it out for foliage. It turned out that timing was right and foliage was peak. Although a short 3-hour visit, this side trip to Whiteface worth every minute. Don’t skip nearby Lake Placid. Towns around Lake Placid is certainly a retreat heaven.
2014 – We took the Gondola ride up to whiteface mountain. The view during foliage season is amazing.
2020 second time visiting whiteface mountain, this time in summer. We decided to do a short trail, Stag brook falls trail, instead of going up to the summit. Stag Brook Falls Trail is 1.3 miles round trip with about a dozen waterfalls on the short trail.
Lakes
2014 – Beautiful Lake (we first thought this was Lake Placid but later found out this was actually Mirror Lake a little south of Lake Placid). Anyway, beautiful lake, clear water, sand and a little playground what more can you ask for. Kids loved it.
2020 – We stayed at a hotel across from Lake Flower, the hotel had kayak for guest use. We took the kayak onto lake flower for a little fun.
Ausable Chasm
When we visited in 2020 due to the pandemic only the river walk tour was offered and advanced reservation was required. The river float and adventure tour was not offered.
The Wild Center
in 2020 reservation was required and we booked a canoe tour to canoe the Raquette

Donnelly’s soft ice cream
2020 – This was a highly recommended ice cream shop by local facebook group. It was not far from our hotel so of course we have to try it out. It was definitely yummy and worth the line.
