West Oahu has popular resorts like Disney Aulani in Ko Olina resort area. Also cities on west Oahu are on fast expansion too. However, only Highway 1 connects to Honolulu. East-bound traffic to Honolulu is terrible during morning peak hours, Avoid hours before 9:00 AM when driving to that direction. If you are going North Shore from west Oahu, you could avoid Highway 2 and take HI-750 instead. This alternative might be faster than H2 and you can stop at Dole Plantation and Green World Coffee Farm as add-ons to your itinerary.
Dole Plantation, yes, the pineapple brand name that you find in every grocery store, is a historic pineapple plantation now attracts families with a train ride & the world’s largest maze. We didn’t do train ride but pineapple-shape maze does offer kids great fun. Check pineapple garden for pineapple variety around the world. Our favorite is of cause its pineapple ice cream. Dole pineapple ice cream is flavorful serving with fresh pineapple dice. Each of us, from little kid to old man, finish his/her own big cup. This thing is never too much into your stomach. Only one thing is too much. They charge fresh whole pineapple in gift box really too much. Gift shop is great, but you can buy tasty pineapple from somewhere else like Costco.
Green World Coffee Farm isn’t that special but it is not far from Dole Plantation. You can take a 30-mins short stop to try out their coffee and their tea made from peaberry. Maybe you will find your favorite Kona bean roast there.
