Travel Tips

  • We booked the Hakone travel package through Odakyu travel (http://www.odakyu-travel.co.jp/eng/hakone/?tourism) which includes roundtrip train ticket from Tokyo, one night hotel in Hakone and Hakone freepass (good for bus, tram, cable car, ferry)

Commute

Train – Odaku line (小田急浪漫特快) from Shinjuku (新宿) to Hakone-Yumoto (箱根湯本)
Hakone Tozan train (箱根登山鐵路) to Gora (強羅)
Hakone Tozan Cable Car (箱根登山纜車) to Sounzan (早雲山)
Hakone Ropeway (箱根空中纜車) to Owakudani (大湧谷) and Togendai-ko (桃源台港)
Hakone Sightseeing cruise (箱根海賊觀光船) to Motohakone-Ko (元箱根港)
Hakone Tozan bus  (箱根登山巴士) around town

Owakudani is famous for it’s black egg cooked in hot spring – it is said that eating the black egg will give you 7 years of longevity, so eat up! while there you can also try the black ice cream or regular ice cream if black is not your color.

Hakone Sightseeing cruise (箱根海賊觀光船)

Take the Hakone Sightseeing (pirate) cruise across Lake Ashi, if you are lucky (we were not) and the weather is good you can enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji on the cruise.

Hakone Shrine (箱根神社)

Torii is a traditional Japanese gate generally found at entrances or within Shinto shrines.  This is the torii at Lake Ashi as seen from the lake and from shore.

Hakone Open-air museum (彫刻の森美術館)

A great museum for the whole family, enjoy sculptures, special exhibitions, play at the very special kids play area or relax at the foot bath hot spring area.

A traditional Japanese hot spring hotel with indoor/outdoor hot springs with traditional style dinner/breakfast.
