Essaouira

we booked the day trip to Essaouira with our Riad. It was 200DH per person. We had around 12 people in our group including us.

The pickup process was a bit disorganized, we spent about 1 hour driving around Marrakech and ended up at a meeting place not far from where we were picked up and were asked to switch cars.

The drive from Marrakech to Essaouira is about 3 hours with 2 stops (1 quick restroom break and 1 stop to visit Aragan cooperative). We choose not to participate in the Aragan cooperative tour.

We arrived at Essaouira shortly before 1pm and had free time at Essaouira until 5pm for the return journey.

Goats on Argan tree

It is a weird sight to see goats on trees. However, is it natural or is it staged? I believe it started out as natural, the goats climbing the trees to eat the Argan fruit. However, when it becomes a popular tourist attraction, it is questionable if it is staged to attract more tourist? If it is staged, are the goats standing on the tree all day against their will? are we as tourists to blame?

Fishing Port

We walked around the fishing port and market. Abbie won the lottery and got pooped on by seagull.

Seafood

There are many seafood huts that sell fresh seafood and will grill it for you. We ordered some sea urchin, shrimp, sardine, and a snow crab. The seafood was very fresh. There’s a story with the crab roe (eggs). Chiming was very excited to see the female crab with lots of roe. However, after the crab came the roe never did. After several asks they finally brought the crab roe out they say in Morocco they don’t eat that. We’re guessing maybe they’ve already threw it out and fished it out after we kept asking for it? Chiming said it didn’t even taste that good but since he insisted on asking for it, he ate it.

Medina

After lunch we walked around the medina. It is much calmer compared to Marrakesh. And definitely more cats (cute curled up sleeping cats).

Fort

It was nice to walk around the fort even though the fog was preventing much view.

Beach

The day we visited was a foggy day with lots of sea fog. It gave the beach a mystic kinda feel.
