Casablanca

Info

Casablanca is the financial center for Morocco, for tourist there is not as much to see as compare to other cities. A half a day is enough for Casablanca or as a lot of people suggest skipping Casablanca.

Train from Casablanca airport to City center (Casa port) is pretty easy and takes about 45 minutes.

We arrived at Casablanca airport at 8:40am, it took about 2 hours to go through custom and collect luggage, stop by ATM to get local currency then buy train ticket.

We only have a day in Casablanca and we fly out late in the evening but we needed a place to store our luggage, so we have booked a hotel close to the train station on the way to the Mosque. So we had a place to leave our things and even had time to take a shower after dinner before heading back to the airport.

Hassan II Mosque

The Hassan II Mosque is worth visiting. This is the only Mosque in Morocco where non-Muslim are allowed to visit inside with a tour. Check the tour time and plan accordingly. We had planned to take the 3pm tour but was not sure if there are limit with tickets, so we arrived at the Mosque early around 1pm. The ticket office was not even open, ticket office opens about 30 minutes before the scheduled tour time. While we were waiting there a staff came by and we asked if we can buy ticket now and visit the museum first, he was kind enough to sell us the tickets, we visited the museum first then walked around the Mosque.

The tour was a bit disorganized, at 2:30 when the ticket office opened there was a very long line to buy ticket (so luckily, we had our tickets already). We estimate there are a few hundred people for the tour and everyone was standing around waiting and not sure what is happening. A little after 3pm a tour guide came out and started walking towards the Mosque and everyone started to follow him.

Once at the Mosque there was a line to scan the ticket to enter, and once inside the Mosque there were signs for meeting point depending on the language. English had the most people.

Shoes have to be removed and they provide everyone with a small bag to carry your shoes.

The tour guide takes you to different sections of the Mosque and provide detail information.

The tour includes a visit to the Hammam in the lower level of the Mosque

Old Medina Market/Old Souk

After visiting the Mosque we walked to the old Medina market and walked around a bit
