Canada Sugar Shacks

Canadian maple syrup season normally runs from February to April when winter closes to the ends and  temperature swings between warm days and cool nights. Many farms host maple celebration with maple syrup meals and activities very much like pumpkin fest in October. Each farm’s operation time varies. Check open date and hour before you go.

Travel Tips

  • wear snow boot or rain boot
  • check operation hours before going

Driving from Montreal to Ottawa in 2017 April, we visited La p’tite cabane d’la côte in Quebec and Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm and Fulton’s Pancake House & Sugar Bush in Ontario. At the time snow was all gone and roads in maple groove were muddy that we didn’t walk too much by our sneakers, but you still can see sap flow and maple syrup in processing.

La p’tite cabane d’la côte collects sap by buckets in traditional way and is popular by its meal of sugars in the region. I found a tasty home-blend maple vinegar that balances sweet, sour and spice very well.

Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm
is more of a tourist spot. Sap is collected on other sites and you could not see much maple trees there. There are barn and field facilities for kids. They offer popular all-you-can-eat maple meals too.

Fulton’s Sugar Bush is huge in maple grooves. You can take on many trails and see maples trees tapped by tube mesh. It is interesting to see small tubes tapped on maple tree, congregate into bigger tubes and flow back to the shack without any manual effort.
